THE ARCHIVE
Ten days on the water, every August from 1962 to 1998. Austin's original festival and we're keeping the lights on until somebody brings it back.

AUSTINITES ABOARD
Aqua Fest started in 1962 to fill Austin's slow summer stretch with a ten-day run of canoe races, sailing, fishing, fireworks, music, parades, and night-lit boats on Town Lake.
It folded in 1998 when the money ran out. The lake is still there. So is the affection.
WHAT AQUA FEST WAS
Canoe races, sailing regattas, fishing contests, illuminated night-water parades, twilight land parades, military parades, rodeo nights, golf, concerts, dances, and fireworks.
WERE YOU THERE?
Once the story wall opens, the best recollections from the parade route, the lakefront, and the August heat will surface here first.
"The archive is open. First story gets pride of place."
Austin changed. So did the neighborhoods around Aqua Fest. Those memories belong in the archive too.
The end of Aqua Fest is part of the history, not a footnote. The timeline traces how it happened.
TIMELINE
Start with the first festival in August 1962, track the growth, the neighborhood pushback, the move west, and the final volunteer years.
THIS WEEK IN HISTORY
A rotating anniversary moment lands here once the browser checks the date against the verified archive seeds.
